Limfjord-Denmark 2012

Limfjord-Denmark (13.4.-21.4.2012)
Kayaking around the island of Mørs
Kayak Route: first paddling day (red line); second paddling day (green line); third paddling day (yellow line). Start Doverodde; finish in Ejerslev
Now it will not be long and then it starts going north Denmark, specifically the island of Mørs in the Limfjord. This we have set ourselves, we want to paddle around with a kayak. Hopefully the weather is on our side. As a starting point, we have chosen for the Limfjordcenter Doverodde.
13.4.-Friday:
This morning I went and bought the food and for our kayak trip. I started back to my food and clothing and equipment to pack.
this has to be packed
From a big shambles quickly became an order and it was all packed into small lightweight duffle bags. Now more quickly put everything into the car and my kayak on the roof, then we can start. Even before Angela was closing time everything is prepacked, stored and loaded. The only thing now is just missing the kayak from Angela. We get on a path from the Canoe Club, when we leave. The phone rang and Angela told me: I make two hours earlier closing time, oh, how beautiful is this. I am pleased. Then there's all the same happening already. It all happened very quickly. As long as I am ready, not yet with packing. At about half past four we will then go after all, now stop briefly at the Canoe Club and load the kayak onto the roof. Then we can start at last. Shortly after 4pm, we take the trip north to attack. There are nearly 400km drive ahead of us. If all goes well we are at 9.30pm against Limfjordcenter.
a quick stop on the way up to Doverodde

On the way there were no unusual occurrences, and we came through really well, it went like clockwork. And almost to the minute we arrived at our destination. We stood in the parking lot of Limfjordcenter. We had read that there is here to stay, wind shelters, but where are they? The restaurant was still open here, looks very "out Exclusiv”, right? However, we can sometimes even ask where we can spend the night here. Done sooner said. In response we received, so that there is a kind of youth hostel, where we are in it to sleep, the wind shelters are only 100m away from the car park and toilets, we can also use we chose the most traditional solution, the wind shelters.
The sleep stuff from the car taken, carried high and then we make it our homely furnished and prepared us for the night.

A really great place here, and how comfortably.
The first holiday-day comes to an end.

14.4.-Saturday:
The first night is over. Now, in the daylight we can take a look around.
shelter at Doverodde

Limfjordcenter at Doverodde

Doverodde
Once we got up, we first made a little walk, paid in the business that night and asked if we the car for the next few days here can leave. Which was not a problem. Then we looked at the little harbor, and also looked after a work site, from where we can start paddling. Then we went back,
ready for breakfast
grabbed the stuff and made breakfast first. In the harbor, we took the kayaks off the roof and loaded the stuff out of the car.

packing and loading the our kayaks

Now, it proceeded to load the kayaks. While I was preparing my kayak, Angela began to load her boat. As far as I then was loaded to mine is still not too much left. And Angela was surprised about the fact that she loaded her boat with so many things. The boats had been loaded quickly, in the distance, it was quite dark, it looks like rain. At about 12.40pm everything was ready and we took our boats into the water and it has now finally start. The kayaks glided quietly and easily through the water, and we made good progress.

Despite that, the boats were not balanced load. Tomorrow we have something else loaded, distribute the weight better. The move drew a light short rain shower passed over us. Of the worst rain we were spared, however, they moved past us.

Beside us in the distance we could see the other one and the rain curtain. As our first target we chose the Dragstrup Vig, the first large bay that lay before us. For now, it should therefore only be enough time. Here on the south bank is a wind shelter, and that we wanted to visit for our first night. We searched the shore, but nothing in sight. A short time later, a youth center came into view, and there next to the sports field it was. No! There, we wanted to not spend the next night. So continue to find a suitable place for our tent. That we had found a few hundred meters later. In the windshield of a few pine trees, overlooking the water.

A really great place. First set up the tent and give, then a late coffee break and then a little walk. Behind the dark clouds now and then appeared on the sun.

From a small hill on the outskirts of Tæbring Vig we had a very nice view of the Dragstrup.
Back to the tent, we walked along the beach. Now it's time to make dinner. A really great first paddling day draws to a close, however. We are looking forward to tomorrow.

15.4.-Sunday:
At last the sun shines from above times, but it's a cold and strong wind is blowing from the west. I wonder if that looks good for a paddling. Well breakfast once and then we'll see. It had not reassured.

ready to take off
At first we had in front of the bay along the shore to leave, yesterday the wind was coming from a different direction. Well it made no sense anymore, so we could always go straight across into the wind. Fast boats were loaded and then we sat there and pushed us off from the shore. Cold wind from the front to even the cold water that occasionally washed over the front deck when the boat dived into a wave, not just the best conditions. After two kilometers i had covered my fingers were completely cold. But now it is finally over, the gloves are moving back to life in my hands get shut. After little more than an hour we had reached the other shore, and made the windscreen in the sun for a short break.

As we look so along the shore, we notice that we will probably have a headwind for the rest of the day. Our next goal is Vilsund, where we want to decide how we want to paddle along the Thisted Bredning. Whether on the west and the north shore or south and east shore along. From the wind comes probably the first option is better, but from nature, the second variant of the much nicer. We will see in Vilsund we choose. Until then, there are still a few kilometres, we have to cover. We got here the first seal to the face. Most likely, it has always traded at one and the same seal, since never more than one appeared. She had been very curious about every other appearance she was closer to the boat, the densest should have been so roughly 10m. When we had left the bridge at Vilsund behind us, we decided on the southern shore of Thisted Bredning to paddle on, even if we get then the waves almost from the page, and paddling in the surf area almost. But it should be only two miles to camp, we find a suitable place. It should therefore be manageable. Finally, we also found in immediate vicinity of the first cliff a place to camp, half windshield from the reeds.
our campside at Thisted Bredning
The wind was quite strong, and the sun emerged from behind the clouds now and then warmed us a little. For a late coffee break again, we strengthened ourselves. Since yesterday we have now covered about 45km. Actually quite good in these weather conditions. If something is not paddled a long time, you need anyway always take some time to get adused to it and find the rhythm. It is then quite well, let it take it easy at the beginning. We must also do not have to overdo. We enjoy the place with this view here. In the north we see now and then the other one and the rain curtain and pull over to our right we enjoy the view over the cliffs. While Angela is a late afternoon nap begrudge, I'll take my camera and go for a little walk. Up on the cliff with a magnificent view over the Thisted Bredning.

Really lovely here, I like really good. Even in this weather. Then we made dinner, there were vegetable pan, hmm yummy.
dinner is ready

Then we took another small dinner walk at sunset.
The second paddling day is coming to an end. We are tired and will probably sleep well.

16.4.-Monday:
The wind had died the night at length even more. Continue paddling to today was not the question. Perhaps more important for those in need or necessarily want it. However, it is not a reasonable advancement of the question. But none of us drives yes, yes, it should not degenerate into tortour, and thus we have a day off today. Fortunately, it's just raining on the storms and not yet on this. After we had breakfasted with peace of mind, we took a walk down to the small town Vilsund. There, we approved at any one a Pølser,
coffee break
plus dessert ice cream. On the way back we made a brief stop at the Spar shop in Sundby for a few more fresh foods (brown bread, sausage, pastries) to buy. Back at the tent, we took a short coffee break. For tomorrow the weather forecast promises reasonably good paddling conditions, we'll see what's coming to us then. When the strong wind would not, then we could not complain. But at least it's dry, that's definitely something. We do not want to moan about. Thus, another day comes to an end after dinner.

17.4.-Tuesday:
Overnight, the wind died down a bit, looks so bad yes it is not enough. Just pull on the horizon black clouds, rather a broad black front after the other.

bad weather is comin
The weather, however, is on our side and we are spared. After breakfast, we break down the tent, loaded our boats and sit a short time later, back in our kayaks and paddle into the water to stand.

the Cliffs of the Thistad Bredning

We paddle along the cliffs to the east with the wind at your back. On the beach of flat we had a short break, the wind has also become a little more and we went on the safe side, already looking for a suitable campsite.

Since we could reach this place by car, only to be careful when we should not get ahead. If this continues it will do with the circumnavigation of the island of Mørs. But that does not really matter, you can plan what you will, whatever the weather decides how the tour goes. It would be nice if we should succeed circumnavigation the island, but not if it is not even among the world. I think we spent about an hour here, then the wind was weaker and we sat back in our kayaks. Watching the wind increased more and more, with each paddle stroke, there was no wind. We went straight for the

 cliffs of Præstegard.

No wind and sunshine, how beautiful. When we reached the headland at Skaresøer the wind came up again, from behind. The last few miles with a tailwind. For our lunch we had chosen the narrow isthmus at Feggesundvej. As we so before we paddled out, we decided not to paddle north to the headland of Feggesund. Not with this wind. The peninsula in front of us probably only 100 to 150m wide. It's easier and faster. We paddled to it, the water became more shallow, until we finally just 5cm of water. I first got out and inspected this place. And the road was almost exactly 100 meters then down again on the road and another 20 m to the water. This is what I said to Angela, she treidelte their boat on shore and I pulled my ever to the street. Next, we carried Angela's kayak to the street. I found a few poles, we rolled our kayaks across the street. That's all really great.

So simple and fast we would not be around the headland at Feggesund come around. Down at the beach, where we make a break and strengthen us, we can see already some distance away from the small harbor Ejerslev. Just as it looks we may have to get there headwind. Well, until then we can do that today, too. As we set off this morning we had any suspicion that it can eventually create up to today Ejerslev. At noon today then it did not, however, only to be run. And now it lies before us. Perhaps we are creating the orbit were yet. The last few kilometers to pull down miserably long, but is slowly Ejerslev greater.
cliffs of Ejerslev
Ejerslev, yeahhhhh!

And finally, we paddled into the small harbor.
 Ejerslev Havn

We've done it and are glad not to have to continue to paddle today. Here is our first course arrived to the harbor master to ask us where we can pitch our tent here. No sooner said than done, and when we asked him in English, where there is a place for our tent, he says: For a moment, I just ask someone. A short time later he came back and said, I also had a cabin for you, it lasts agree? Puzzled, I looked at him and asked: What would it cost us? In response we got: Nothing! The artisans are just about to finish the huts, you would have to sleep on the concrete floor. After I had translated everything Angela a smile came over her face. Relief was seen today and not have to be able to sleep even in four solid walls. Okay, no problem, had been our answer. He allowed ourselves to the hut, toilet and a cozy lounge, we were able to use it. Our new home had to be cleant of garbage only a little.

It's really nice here, a small, cozy port is here. The summer is definitely the hell. After we had carried our stuff into the cabin and had us set up then we went for a walk on the small hill and a little along the beach.

Ejerslev Havn
Back in the harbor, we then began to make supper. The wind is in the course of the rest of the day became more and more. If tomorrow so we sit here first determine and get stuck. But first see what the weather will be tomorrow. This night we will be able to sleep well again.

18.4.-Wednesday:
The wind had decreased imperceptibly and blew still quite strong (Bft. 6), was a reasonable progress impossible. At breakfast we discussed what we should do now. We decided that we would find our kayak tour stop to let the boats here, go to the bus and hitchhike to Doverodde to bring the car here to go back down to the boat pick up and then head to the North Sea coast, in the National Park Thy. Such was the plan. After we had cleared everything out of the hut, put the boat on a grass verge and cleared everything in the kayaks had to leave, we have now. We were only a short time on foot, when a car stopped next to us, the old man took us to Sejerslev. Where he had left me almost stand. When Angela was seated and had locked the door behind him, I've just been about to enter the car. He drove off with the open back door. A few meters and he did it was to allow me to enter.

Sejerslev with the little store with a bank and a gasstaion
In Sejerslev it did not take long to have been taken, although we were actually going to go from here by bus to Nykøbing. This, however, only drove in more than one hour. So we decided to go only once on foot. Then we sat in the very next car, according to the rest of the way Nykøbing. There we had a little time until the bus via Ness after Hurup Thy drove off. After a little stroll around town we were back at the bus station. After a while we noticed that the ferry does not run from Ness, but there is a spare. The next bus took us to school. There we received from the bus driver, the information that we have to go back to the bus station to go from there by bus to Thisted, and then take another bus to Hurup Thy, and from there take a taxi bus to go to Doverodde . Well, that may indeed be funny. My mood was not the best, you're dealing with morons. Because no one can sometimes give reasonable information, damn it? Well, we finally sat on the bus to Thisted. And the remainder by Doverodde then worked great. The car was still there, where we had parked it. And so now we took the way back to Ejerslev addressed. After we left this morning to Ejerslev 9.45am, we were now facing 6.45pm again here. After we had everything loaded in the car on the car and we journeyed North Sea coast. As a possible target, we had a wind shelter on Sø Vandet near Klitmøller, chosen. Along the way there was some times rains. And around it was at Klitmøller spill. After some searching and finding nothing, we decided to visit a campground. This we found at Klitmøller too. There we quartered ourselves in a small hut once one up tomorrow.
our little home for next days
Really nice cozy here. On the evening in the dark we took a walk down the street to the beach. Has been there but we did not know exactly how far down the road, we came in this evening not to the beach, which does not really matter. What now for an eventful day draws to a close.

19.4.-Thursday:
That's not nearly clear blue sky, but still very windy.

a nice and beautiful morning Klitmøller

Shortly after sunrise I took a little walk to the beach a little to photograph.
Then we made breakfast, while we decided that we will remain the other two days even here. Since paddling is not so fashionable, we want to become a little hiking, Vilsbø the dune plantation. On the walk there we have seen among the dunes a few deer.
Hanstholm Vildreservat

It is very stormy, but at least it seems the sun. After a round of about 18 km, we are back on the car.
Near Sårup there should be a wind shelter, and we want to locate. So on it goes. What beautiful weather, but not if the wind would be strong, in which case it would probably turn so hot that it is not to endure. Well you have to be content with what you're gonna get. Once at the forest park in Sårup, we see the way to the same wind shelter. There we find that there is a super nice furnished place.

And a little further you have a great view over the dunes to the North Sea. Too bad that this place we knew not before, otherwise we would not have us quartered at the campsite. But then Angela would like to stay here on saturday, I have nothing against it. That would be Angela on her birthday and then something very special. For the return trip to Klitmøller we will first have to go to Hantsholm eating, shopping and ice cream. Once in Klitmøller we drove down to the beach, where we made a little walk.
Klitmøller beach
Actually quite a nice day then goes into the small hut to the end.

20.4.-Friday:
Furthermore, sunshine and strong winds. Good thing we have left to a further paddle would have been still do not think. And here we have it but also very beautiful.
At first there is breakfast. Today we want to go in the other direction, a little south. There should also be a couple of wind shelters, and we want to see. The first we find in the small village of Torup, on the lawn there are two small pieces, by car you can drive nearly up. The next one is in the Torup Klitplantage. In order to get you there must go a few hundred meters.

In Nørre Vorupør we make a short stop and go down to the beach.
the fishing boats at Nørre Vorupør beach
We also buy fish and sandwiches for lunch the same. Outside of Stenbjerg we found the next wind shelter, to go there it will be a kilometre away. We then make our lunch break.
Stenbjerg Shelter
We drive up Lodbjerg where it also has a wind shelter. Also a nice place for tomorrow.
Shelter at Lodbjerg

Lodbjerg Fyr

Angela is still fluctuate, where we want to stay, we still have until In Nørre Vorupør we make a short stop and go down to the beach. We also buy fish and sandwiches for lunch the same. Outside of Stenbjerg we found the next wind shelter, to go there it will be a kilometre tomorrow morning, time to think about that. We are still up on the nearby dunes. From there, you have a magnificent panoramic view to the North Sea.
the dunes of Lodbjerg with the Northsea

From here we drive back to Klitmøller, the way we make a short detour to Sø Vandet where we want to once again visit the other wind shelter which we have not found the day before yesterday. This time we go into the forest as forbidden, but then reverse and take another road that leads only to a farm. Since it is already raining, and we have no great desire to go on foot. So we let it go and now finally back to the hut. The weather forecast for tomorrow predicts not necessarily good weather, and it should be pretty cool. We shall see tomorrow how it is.

21.4.-Saturday:
Happy Birthday Angela. I had the alarm set for midnight. So I was able to congratulate Angela on time for her birthday. She was very surprised. This is also my intention. The weather looks this morning, not exactly rosy. Once breakfast in peace, then we'll see. But it still did not look good. So we decided to return again today to go home. Although unfortunate, but there were still quite a great day all this. After we had loaded everything into the car and loaded the boats onto the roof, we sat on the move south, back to Itzehoe.
That was the Limfjord Northsea Holiday April 2012.
! END!
After holiday is before holiday.
And then hopefully come to pentecost, with the aim of kayak tour in the Danish South Sea.
If true that the weather is okay. Otherwise we have to stop looking for something else. Something we probably will found.
! END!
