Kayak tour in May
2012, the Danish Baltic Sea

And as a starting point we have selected ourselves for it Fynshav.
Because I still had to work on Friday 25th , Angela had
had the food already before bought. For the most part this had
already packed she as well had also packed her own things, her boat
already lay on the roof. In the late Friday evening I came in Itzehoe
by the train, then still fast some things pack up, then this should
have been it for today evening. We make the rest then tomorrow
morning.
26.5. Saturday:
The alarm clock rang to us about 6 o'clock in the morning from the
feathers, because the car had to be still loaded, my boat still put
on
the roof and therefore we had to have breakfast, we could be woken
up so early. Everything went rather quickly, and about 7.15am we were
on the way to Fynshav.

Beaming sunshine, the most marvellous weather. No comparison with our
Limfjord tour. After just two-hour journey we had reached our
destination. Absolute calm, beaming blue sky, and a heat, almost
Caribbean weather. Already only from nothing comes acting one already
in sweat.
Quick the boats were stripped by the roof and the car, and a big heap
in sea bags and bags lay beside the kayaks. On a small green area we
caught to our boats to load.

To Angela I said: We load the boats here and bring them then by my
boat carriage in the water. Then this is so much easier.
We were one hour now here and already we were ready and ready to the
departure. Angela parked fast the car around, and then we already sat
in our kayaks and dipped the paddles in the water. It goes off,
finally. We had been glad already very much about this day. And here
now we are.

Now the crossing of the small Beltes lies for the moment before us.
As the first we have decided to paddle over to the island Lyø,
now there lie just 11 km before us. However, with these conditions it
should be no problem. And it also does not look afterwards, as if in
the foreseeable future wind should arise, and to us therefore the
crossing would complicate. So, then off and this duck pond cross. One
believes himself in this weather almost like in a microwave. Before
us the island Lyø becomes quite slowly bigger, with glassy sea
one does not have to come the feeling at all from the place.
Only the
look at the GPS betrays us which we move with a little bit more than
6 km/h forward. Then after 2-hour crossing we have also achieved our
first stage aim. Now we are in the island world of the Danish Baltic
Sea.

Below the little steep coast in the south of Lyø we make
a small break. A little the legs stretch, and relieve the bottom. As
an aim for our night's lodging we have selected ourselves a
Primitively camp site in the east of Avernakø. Or better said
Angela has suggested him, because she have been already there. Up to
there still lie just 13 km before us. This are really of insanity
conditions here. Really incredibly, a pity the weather not similar we
on our Limfjord tour had. We have already almost reached a small
crossing to the island Avernakø over here and thus for today
our aim. We have to go only half round the island. Beside the small
harbour we accrete for a short break. Here we also see the first
kayakists. On the water are some sail boats, big as well as also
small, on the way. Those lack only the wind what is good for us,
however. After other two hours paddle we have achieved for today our
aim. This is a nice small bay here. The meadow to the tent is just
100 m away from the beach.
By the boat carriage a splosh. We do not
build up the tent yet, it would heat up only unnecessary-wise in this
weather. We enjoy the weather, and lie being lazy on the cover. We
make a small fire and barbecue a little the evening. Really
fantastically here.

Then we build up the tent, and still go for a final walk on time to
the sundown.
A wonderful day bends therefore to the end.
28.5. Monday:
29.5. Tuesday:
30.5. Wednesday:
27.5. Sunday:
Again a marvellous day, beaming blue sky and sunshine, in addition
today a little wind. Directly beside the tent a picnic bank with
table, what a luxury stands for the breakfast in the free nature. Our
today's aim is the small island Birkholm, up to there these are about
15 km. After we had breakfast, the tent diminished which load boats
and had moved to the beach went on it.
Today by the wind it is more
wavy a little bit, but nothing from what one must allow to bring
himself from the rest. To achieve our today's aim we had to go first
of all to the island Drejø over here.

On the eastern side we made with look the island Hjortø a
small lunchbreak.
After a small crossing to the island Hjortø and an other crossing to us brought therefore to the island Birkholm,
we had achieved for today our aim. On the beach lay one dozen sea kayaks, hopefully not everybody stay here, I imagined. Otherwise I still get the crisis.
Fortunately, they went on about 1 hour after we had come here. A luck, it becomes quieter here, nicely. The wind lay down more and more, and the sun shone furthermore with full strength from above down.
We went for a small walk in the little "village", four houses stand here, it was this. From the harbour there is a small signpost with the tip:

We went for a small walk in the little "village", four houses stand here, it was this. From the harbour there is a small signpost with the tip:
„Ice there along“. We followed these.
And then stood in a house before a door behind which was in a small space with deep fridge. Where one could help himself and had to put afterwards himself the money in a plastic tin. What trust the people have here. But where should one also be able to hide here? Or where does one have to go then here also there? We took everybody an ice and still a small bread, paid and sat down in the shade and enjoyed the cold ice.
In the harbour it has become noticeably quieter. We started to prepare with it the supper, and still built up fast the tent.

For the forthcoming sundown we had boxes place. Behind the island
Drejø sank, finally, the sun, and we had been able to
experience a fantastic sundown.
Another nice day in the Danish Baltic
Sea has passed by therefore.
28.5. Monday:
Furthermore sunshine, but today a little stronger wind
blows in addition.
Actually, we had to paddle before today to
Ærøskøbing. But when we found out yesterday that
today and tomorrow the wind blew rather strongly, we had decided
around, and thus we want to paddle to Søby to see then there
like it goes on. From Birkholm to the peninsula Urehoved on Ærø
these are about 7 km. The wind made progress almost from the front,
we struggled, but it led the way, actually, quite well.
After one and
a half hours we had reached Urehoved where we took a short break.
It
still lie to Søby 11 km before us. However, too only we must
still traverse the bay Revkrog, still with headwind, then we can move
under country a little bit in the windbreak forward. Slowly and
laboriously we get closer to our aim always a little piece. Then,
finally, we have the last kilometre before ourselves, but this
sometimes with wind and waves almost from the side. Then we have
created the last hundred metres up to the beach it. Finally and a
luck, finally, in Søby. Here come we pull our boats as first
on a picnic and playground. We enquire after the schedule of
departure of the ferry, there one said us:

Actually, we had to paddle before today to
Ærøskøbing. But when we found out yesterday that
today and tomorrow the wind blew rather strongly, we had decided
around, and thus we want to paddle to Søby to see then there

The ferry to Fynshav? It does not go, it is put. Fantastically and
how now further? Oh just, no it is the ferry to Faaborg that does not
go. Ah, well, okay.
According to the harbour master we also enquired, it comes in the
evening and collects the money, was informed of us. Well, then we
saunter only a little by the small harbour. Looking at which times
the ferry to Fynshav files, information makes up for us over coaches
Ærøskøbing.
Then we buy to ourselves a gigantic ice and enjoy it, today this we have also earned. We have to spend before the also tomorrow's day here to go, indeed, then in the morning by the coach after Ærøskøbing to look the town a little. To go then the day after tomorrow with the ferry to Fynshav. Thus the other plan looks. After we had taken a shower everybody, we made to ourselves in it the supper to make. The wind still blew very strongly, but here behind the bushes we sit in the lee. Short time later the harbour master went past.

And where want you to spend the night? If he asked us. Yes, this
would have been our question to you whether we might put up our tent
here. No, here not, there you disturb the yachtsmen with have a
picnic, but over here on the lawn directly beside the footbridge
there you can build up your tent. Okay, how does it look if we
tomorrow could still stay here? No, this does not go, one night is
okay, however, no second night. But tomorrow we want to go by the
coach after Ærøskøbing. No, this does not
go. Well then just not. How much we must pay then for the night. I
expect nothing, only the respect from You.
Therefore he disappeared and wished still us a nice evening. Well and
therefore had died Ærøskøbing on the tomorrow's
day. Then just not, so we go back then tomorrow just with the ferry
to Fynshav. We pulled our boats over here on the other grassy plain
and caught to our tent to be based.
And here therefore the kayak tour
is over in the Danish Baltic Sea also.

It was really nice here. We come again, anyway.
29.5. Tuesday:
Overnight the wind has still increased a little. At
least it is not in rain. When we get up and look at the clock, Angela
said:
Want we to take the ferry immediately already? Then we must hurry up,
we can still create this. Yes okay.
Everything fast diminished, Angelas Kayak emptiet, everything in mine
removed, the boat carriage under my kayak, Angelas Kayak on mine, and
then of all festival-lashed, Ready.
Thus we pulled the boats to the ferry and waited for it that we are taken or better may go said with.
After the cars have been loaded, one waved to us up. Cool. Then we
are rather early over there, and then can have breakfast there
somewhere. This is a rather stormy crossing, well the fact that we do
not paddle any more need, we would not have created this (wind Bft.
approx. 7-8).

Well that we have decided so.
After a quarter hour we had reached Fynshav. We pulled the boats on the parking bay before the harbour, then Angela went off and got the car during me the kayaks emptied. How Angela was back, we put away everything and lashed the boats firmly. Then we went to Mommark around there for breakfasts.
We found there a sheltered from the wind and sunny place.
Because we did not want to go yet already back to Itzehoe, we went to
Høruphav and I showed a Primitively camp site directly beside
the yacht harbour to Angela there. She found this very great and thus
we decided to spend the next night there. But before we still went to
Sønderborg and sauntered there still a little through the
town.
Then we came along on the way back after Høruphav. A
really nice place here.
Here six years ago on my kayak tour to Turku
I have already spent the night, at that time I liked him already very
well.
In the evening we still went for a small walk along the beach.

30.5. Wednesday:
Furthermore strong wind, and sunshine. Time see how
long this remains so.
Dark clouds draw up it. After the breakfast we
go to Skelde Kobbelskov, there is also a Primitively camp site which
I would like to show to Angela. Also there I have spent the night six
years ago. It is in a small forrest.
From there we go to Brunsnæs where also a Primitively camp site should be.
This lies also really fantastically and is ideal for canoeists, up to the water these are only 50 m. We search in Kollund Østerskov another two other places, however, find only one of it, however, this lies not so nicely as the others. And now we go on from here and therefore back to Itzehoe. This was the small vacation in the Danish Baltic Sea. Made really fun, the weather was great, it could have been chiller for me a little, but, at least, better than only absolutely bad weather. We come again. See you some time.

Then the next is from middle of September till the beginning of
October, then, however, in Sweden.
Then hopefully something else is left of the INDIAN SUMMER.
